The Dalai Lama’s endorsement of consensual, adult relationships
is encouraging.
However, he still seems to equate same-gender love and
attraction with the act of sex itself (rather than recognizing sexual
orientation as a matter of ontology), and he seems to accept that governments
and religions have a right to promote oppressive ideologies that would continue
to marginalize same-gender loving people.
He has made a step in the right direction and I applaud his
attempt at openness; and in general I am a big fan of His Holiness the Dalai
Lama, but I continue to stand in opposition to all homophobic theologies and I
hope for the day when the majority of religious leaders will do the same.
